soapbox
I haven't spouted off much about the current state of affairs and just want it to be known that I believe the following to be true. You can disagree. As an American it's your perogitive.
George Bush Sr. should NEVER NEVER NEVER have allowed us to pull out without finishing the job last time. If we'd just taken care of things back during the Gulf War, we wouldn't be in this mess today. (I'm not saying that I thought the Gulf War was about anything more than oil either, just that they shouldn't have done such a half assed job.)
We no longer have (if we ever truly did) the right to decide which way to turn without getting input from the rest of the world (and actually listening to it).
Our current government doesn't care because we no longer live in a Republic; we are living in an Empire. (I'd love to pretend this was purely my idea, but I saw it first in Paper about a month ago.) Mr. Bush Jr. wasn't elected, he was appointed by a tribunal which is itself not elected. The emperor has no clothes and nobody really cares anymore because they keep the populace happy with bread and circuses. Think about it. What is Reality TV other than bread and circuses for the 21st century? Labels: dose of mikey, linkage, rant
