saved from the saga
I could tell you all about the frustration and angst that I've gone through trying to get the proper FTP software, but I'll spare you and just let you all know that it'll be a while yet. Besides, I'm still sick and I don't feel like typing very much right now. That being said...I had to log in quick to share this story.
Not sure why, but it struck me wonderful.
ETA: As I slog through these entries to tag them, I'll come across dead links. This is one of them and I'm not sure where it pointed to. Lost to the vagaries of the interwebs.Labels: blogging, dose of mikey

sleepless in san Francisco
Some nights I just can't sleep. Everything quiets down and the rest of the world nods off while I lie there, awake, listening to the soft sound of the world resting around me. Tonight is such a night. The cold that G had has finally found his body a not so nice hotel and made it's way over to me in hopes of a less stressfully stay, but it's in for a surprise. I refuse to get sick right now. My heightened state of awareness is probably partially due to the fact that I won't let it get the best of me...even if I stay awake far beyond reason. I simply refuse to let it get in the way of my current state of happiness.
I may have symptoms over the next few days, but Ill be damned if I give it the satisfaction of keeping me down.
Welcome to the mind of a fool...or a genius depending on your point of view. (ahh, megalomania, a good sign that I ought to be in bed rather than typing this right now) My kingdom for a yawn!Labels: dose of mikey

eine kleine nachtmusik
Went to Walgreens to grab a new thermometer since our old one went kaput. (and G's still not feeling any better) On the way I stopped briefly to hear the string quartet playing in the entrance way of Cliff's variety finish up one of Mozart's more popular tunes. One of the many reasons I love San Francisco.
Lots of people walking about enjoying the beginning of summer. On the way home I amused myself by putting cell phone to ear and saying random things as I passed people.
"Oh no, it never snows there anymore. They've converted. (pause) Yes, the TriEd Club is where it's at these days."
"Bertrice has really done it this time! What's she going to do with all that extra hair?"
"Well, it's like Gramps used to say,'There's only so much you can do with a ten day old kangaroo.'"
"Well, if you ask me, I think it's a bit odd that he'd want to do that without wearing the blindfold. I mean, would you want to watch all that ice cream melting on the stove?"
etc. Labels: dose of mikey, g, san francisco

sniffles and coughs
G's feeling sickly, so I'll keep this pretty short. Been a long week with some late nights at work prepping for meetings that'll happen next week. Haven't had a chance to get in here as much as I'd like, but wanted to highlight some things.
Had LL over for dinner and a movie on Wednesday. Watched Sordid Lives. I'm not sure how we hadn't heard of it before, I predict a future in which it'll become one of the must-see-to-keep-your-gay-card type of movies.
Thursday saw the end of the AR with the gay married couple taking the grand prize. Sadly enough, they seem to already gone the way of so many of their hetero counterparts and are now seperated. (though working on the relationship) Ended the evening off by playing a newish game called The Abbey. It's a bit like clue for adults, so naturally I was hooked pretty easily. Loved that game!
The most important news of all is that Dude finally got a phone! Now I can bug him whenever I want. (hee hee!) Sadly, he caught me still at work last night worrying about the WENUS. Good news is I will not be going in today as orignally planned, so I can stay home and make sure G's drinking lots o' liquids and eating some yummy matzoh ball soup we made.Labels: dose of mikey, g, linkage, random review, the gay

i can't cook
OK, actually I can cook a bit, but I had this GREAT idea for a cooking show. Here's why.
1. I've gotten a bit pudgier than I used to be having married someone who cooks and bakes really well. 2. I've noticed, while watching the cooking shows, that it's ok for the hosts to look...um...healthy. So I could be a host. 3. Except I don't have the expertise. So I'll be the host that can't cook and goes around the country/world to many fabulous restaurants picking up simple tips from favorite chefs. SIMPLE. And I get to travel and eat in many fabulous places. Yay!
Ah, if I only had the energy to go with my mind, I'd be much wealthier now! (That being said, this idea is copyrighted and being cataloged as such so steal it and my lawer and I will both be rich. Or just offer to buy it from me and then you and I can be rich...and you could be famous at the same time! Or you could make me famous by letting me be the host that I dreamed of being...I'm 30something, but still pretty cute, right? Besides, I FLAME out on camera so you'd have the added bonus of a gay male who lost out on the cooking gene. Ha ha, the irony and the publicity ops!)Labels: dose of mikey

futon donation
Someone on Craig's List was looking for old futon frames to build tree boxes for Friends of the Urban Forest. G and I just decided to give ours away. It's been sitting in the hallway for almost a month now as we haven't had the energy to sell it. Seeing as we'd probably only get 30-40 bucks for it, this seems like a pretty worthwhile thing to do. We'll get an uncluttered hallway and the knowledge that our old bed went to a good cause. Maybe we can even go visit it! I am such a dork. (and I love that about me)Labels: linkage, san francisco

arrgh
Just typed in a very long post that was eaten by Blogger...no desire to type it all again, so to sum up:
What a week it's been.
Lovely dinner last night...authentic Thai. (and congrats to Vivianka and Fireboy)
Need FTP software...if I'm ever to update pages beyond the main home page.
Desire webcam.
Also have fondness for Kenneth Cole shoes.
Money, money, money!
Oh how I desire webcam and wish to join the 21st century.
Need for virus protection software overrides all right now.
Thank the powers that be for the existance of G who knows a bit about computers.
Ooh look! New donation button to right in hopes that random rich person takes a shine to me and this site.
Yes, TANSTAAFL, but I'm willing to try.
Excited to see Keeks tonight.
Bye for now.Labels: blogging, dose of mikey, g, shout out

friends in far away places
Tonight I chatted with a new friend in Paris via the internet. I could see him smile at my responses thanks to the wonder of a webcam. I know I'm about 5 years late to hop on this bandwagon, but I want to finally hook myself up. G has one from quite a while back, but I've just discovered that they're not very expensive and a whole lotta fun so why not upgrade?
FUN!
(The fact that I spent the day at a photoshoot watching cute models at work, yet post first about this chat just goes to show what a wonderful place the internet is...and what a geek I can be. LOVE that.)
PS Still having trouble with files and gotta dash for dinner, so next update will come once I've figured it all out.Labels: blogging, dose of mikey

more long days
Just got home and am looking forward to bathing in the gamma rays. Had my first official presentation in the new job, and it was ok. (I did have that meeting a few weeks back where I found out I'd be presenting about five minutes before it started, but I don't count that, even though it went well.) Photoshoot next week should be fun, but it's local and nothing too fabulous so I'm not getting too psyched up. Wishing I could go on the larger shoot early next month, but budget restrictions are making that pie in the sky. Oh well, I did get to interact with a hunky model today so overall I don't have much to complain about now do I? Really not a bad way to spend the morning.Labels: dose of mikey, sharketing

odds n ends
The Guru was a bit slow, but worth watching for the well placed funny bits and musical numbers. (if you like that sort of thing, which I do...otherwise you'll probably find the movie a little tedious) Also worthwhile is the cute star, Jimi Mistry.
Taking care of Lena's cat this weekend really made me want to get us a kitty of our own. The problem being that the lease says very specifically no cats. Actually, the lease says no pets and then goes on to name everything from goldfish to pot bellied pigs. I'm thinking that we'll have to start looking for a better option next year, but I love the neighborhood and don't want to leave, so our choices will be a bit limited. And yes, to all of you who'll ask after reading that, I will look into moving back east again. The thing is that the economy will have to have improved quite a bit and we'll have to find a way to solve the healthcare challenge before that truly becomes an option.
G's computer's still down, and I'm finding that mine runs slower without his being hooked up correctly. It's odd how technology creates new frustrations even as it solves old ones. What I mean is this: As I drove across town earlier today, I had an odd moment where I suddenly realized that my every day life is so different from that of my ancestors of only a hundred years ago, that I wonder if we'd truly ever be able to trade places without going slowly insane being out of our own time. Being a tech junky, I think the ancestor would do a great deal better at coping with my now then I would with his then. No phone, no lights, no motor cars, not a single luxury...indeed!Labels: dose of mikey, linkage, random review

not much news
Nope, not much news to report on a personal level. I continue to work long hours...which is my own call. My boss has asked several times this week whether he can help out and other than two small projects, I've kept it all to myself. Because the job is new and I'm dealing with taking over from someone with very different organizational skills, I figure it's better to put in the long hours now and just sort things out so that next season won't be quite so hectic. That being said, I did know that the hike in salary would mean a hike in responsibility and that the next few months would be busy so this could all be normal. Yuck.
In other news. I'm officially addicted to Queer Eye for the Straight Guy on Bravo. I thought I wouldn't like it, but it's actually quite funny and...even in my gayness I must admit this...I've picked up a few tips. Who knew toothpaste would clean a candlestick? OK G did, but I missed that day in Queer Cleaning 101.
Also should mention that I'm sitting through Boy meets Boy as part of my gay duties. It seems pretty equal to The Bachelor or Bachelorette or any of those other dating reality shows, so if you like them I'd give it a big thumbs up. The thing is that those sorts of shows, gay or straight, give me knots in my stomach because I suffer from a condition known as sympathetic embarassment. How can they do it? Put themselves out there for all the public humiliation? However, growing up in a world where my gay icon was Jack Tripper on Threes Company, I am amazed that we're finally getting more representation in the media. (And yes, I know Jack wasn't gay, but that's the whole point...there was nobody else) So I'll endure my stomach knots in silence and make frequent trips to the kitchen for cookies.
