spiders

Tonight I could write about the movie The Castle and tell you that you'll like it, but the truth is that you'll only like it if you're like G and myself who sometimes enjoy movies from countries that aren't the United States. Movies that have a slightly independent feel and star no one you've ever heard of...not even Parker Posey. You'll like it if you can deal with people speaking with an accent and using Australian colloquialisms that you may not have heard before. You'll like it if you have a soft spot for David vs. Goliath stories and movies that aren't all fast cuts and explosions. If you only want actors who'll become future governors and presidents, I'd give this film a miss.

So I won't write about the movie and instead will tell you that last night I dreamt of spiders. I was working in a house that was not quite unlike my parent's home back east and yet also not unlike an old English manor with secret passages and corridors that seem to wander for days. Now, in waking life, I have no great fondness for spiders and must confess to the occasional high pitched yelp when confronted with one of the little fellows. Actually, ladies is much more appropriate here given that species particular proclivities, but I digress. The point is that in the dream they didn't freak me out so much as frustrate me by showing up at all the wrong times.

The house had several rather large spiders in residence. (I'm talking large as in a small poodle vs. big tarantula. These are the spiders that can only exist in bad sci-fi movies and dreams.) It was the job of myself and the rest of the staff of the manor to hide these spiders from the family living there. At one point in the dream, I remember tossing a knit cap over one of the smaller arachnids and then sitting on it in hopes of concealing my charges presence from the lady of the manor. As she left the room, I jumped up, whipped up the cap and then proceeded to fluff the spider back to life as if it were a pillow. It was not very pleased with me, but it's hard to serve two masters. Sooner or later someone's going to be unhappy.

I need to put down that the matriarch had pale skin, straight dark hair and only wore clothes of black that were a bit too modern and sleek for the setting. I mention this because I do know what the dream meant and will be able to remember later from that detail. If you're truly curious, I can tell you individually, but I cannot post it here for all the world to see. There's actually a good reason for this, but I will readily own that I also enjoy being mysterious.
