only connect

Have you noticed that people walking up out of the subway immediately put a cell phone to their ear? It's as if they need to make sure they haven't missed too much of life while they were underground. I do it too, so this isn't about me poking fun. I'm just wondering what odd instinct prompts us all to do the same thing.

In other news, I'm sure I've used this entry title before as it's from Howard's End and one that runs through my head time to time. Never-the-less, it's appropriate for today, and why, why, why do I insist on handcuffing myself with silly rules?
