not going to Boston
There's a meeting in Boston in two weeks. They asked me if I'd be willing to go. I said, "Hell yes!" But I'm not going. They decided they needed to send someone else from a different department...to keep things even.
I hate office politics.
I want...so so much...to go work in a bookstore.
But then I'd never get to Boston.

IF
I live in the world of if. If this, then that, but what if...
If I do this then I can't do that, but what if I can do this AND that. What if?
If I love, I may be hurt.
But if not, I'll never know the truth of if.

playing faintly
Every once in a while, you can hear the tune that is the melody of your life playing faintly in the background. If you don't concentrate too hard, it'll feel as if the words are just moments from bursting forth from your mouth. AAAAH ahhh bah na na na na na...AAAAH ahhh bah na na na na na naaaaah .... sitting on a park bench?
Then you come home and type it all into the computer, but you're only creating bad poetry. Nothing like that tune will truly play in your life until you've reached the last moments and relive all that's been before.
until then, i'm ok catching the odd refrain

butterflies in retrospect
There's no one like G.
No one I'd rather spend a lazy Sunday afternoon with;
barbecuing chicken wings and Tofurky
and laughing at how wonderful it all is.
Watching the butterflies play tag in the trees above us.
Seeing the sun set and the first stars pop out.
Suddenly driving to twin peaks to see 'em all better.
Holding hands at the top of the world.
He falls asleep,
and I look at him in the warm glow of the television.
I wrap myself in the happiness,
it'll help keep me warm if colder days should come.

tick tock
Just checked my webstats and realized that even with very few updates over the past few weeks, April already has quite a few hits. I also noticed that more than a couple of people have been checking out my Amazing Adventure sitelet. This makes me feel suddenly guilty that it's been months since any real update happened there.
Never fear. The crazy months at work should be settling down finally, and I may get a chance to transcribe some more. (Hey, if I get laid off I'll have LOTS of time to play on the internet.)
Anyway, for those of you who wondered at the teeny tiny type on those pages, I plan on popping in tonight to up that font a bit so you'll no longer need a magnifying glass to read it.
LATER:Uggh. It's 12:30 and I did end up fixing the font and adding an entry to the adventure. Feels good to have done it, but I'm going to be so very tired in the a.m!

child outside
Today we went to the San Francisco Zoo. I have mixed feelings about zoos having seen a few that were really just sad clumps of old cramped cages, but I'm happy to report that the SF zoo is not of that variety. They've been upgrading every year that I've been in the city and each time I've gone there's something new that's helping make it a zoo to be proud of. The lemur exhibit was my fave this time.
In related news, e continues to amaze me. At four and a half, she's very aware of the world around her and how to interact in it in ways I hadn't imagined. For instance, yesterday morning she showed me the sites for Noggin and PBSKids. That is, she typed in www.noggin.com with her little fingers and navigated through the pages. Suddenly I had a vision of the future. There's many people I work with who are pretty much still technophobes. Even though they interact with a computer on a daily basis for email and various documents, they freeze up anytime a new way of doing things crops up. This generation's going to give that mindset a run for its money. After all, a mouse is no more threatening to these kids than a crayon. I say color away, and let the chips fall where they may!

child inside
M and little e arrived yesterday, updates will be sporadic at best over the next week. So nice to have them around and fun to see the mind of a four year old at work. So much quicker on the uptake than a nonparent like myself was prepared for!
Today we went to Habitot over in Berkeley and then down the street to Ikea. Both were fun places to play in, but Ikea had the added bonus of FOOD. Gotta love those swedish meatballs!

early morning thought
Looking at myself in the bathroom mirror a moment ago, I was struck by the fact that the lines around my eyes have become a bit more pronounced. I don't notice these things on a daily basis, and it amazes me how large the changes seem to be each time I do happen to notice. Especially when I know there's years ahead before I actually get OLD old. (Though I believe I'll still be saying the same sort of thing when I'm 82...and that I'll still know it's true.)
Wondering what I'd done to get those lines around my eyes at the supposedly supple age of 33, I began twisting my face into various expressions, as if I was practicing for an evening of facial puppetry. The expression that worked best to match the wrinkles, line for line, was that of a big smile.
It's nice to have those kind of wrinkles.
