glued to the tube

We did gay day at Great America on Friday evening. (thanks to G winning me a set of tickets) Much fun! I haven't been on a rollercoaster since a certain wedding in Las Vegas a few years back and these were intense rides. I highly recommend Top Gun, but I also highly recommend NOT drinking a beer right before going on. It made me quite wobbly.

We have no big plans for the weekend and I had to have G remind me several times yesterday that it's actually ok to sit around doing NOTHING for a whole day. I know I need the break now and again, but I end up feeling so guilty if I haven't accomplished something by sundown that it almost makes it unfun to just contemplate the navel...or the glowing box of random info - which basically amounts to the same thing.

Still have not quite figured out what happened to the site last week. It seems like somehow the link was co opted by some gobblydeegook, but posting a new entry fixed things up. Just wish that whatever it was hadn't sucked away the entry from Wednesday.

testing 1-2-3

Something odd is happening. I'm afeared someone's tried to take over this site. Hoping for a simple fix...

Well that worked, but the annoying thing is that Wednesday's post seems to have evaporated into the ether.

Bummer.

pilgrim's progress

Watched some more episodes of Colonial House tonight. I'm all for instant gratification, but I think PBS would do better if they kept it to two hours, once a week instead of cramming it all in to a short two week period. It's all going to be over tomorrow night and I haven't had enough time to truly process through some things.

What I do know in no particular order:

I love my toothbrush.
I really like having many more than just two outfits to wear.
You shouldn't eat meat if you aren't willing to slit the animal's throat.
Fly's don't bug me as much as bugs do.
There's something to be said for staring at the fire.
Bottled beer is a wonderful invention.
Give someone a camera to confess to (or a website for that matter), and eventually they'll tell you any and everything.

smithy saturday

Last night we spent about 5 or 6 hours trying to get my Microsoft Picture It! 7 software to work going through several of the posted fixes and restarting the computer umpteen times. No such luck.

My HP image editing software is also causing errors, so no photos for a while on the blog. (I'd like to point out that the error in the HP software is being caused by Microsoft issues. I know it's cliche to kvetch about the super giant, but I don't want to inadvertently give a bad review to HP which makes a great camera and has given us no problem until one day two weeks ago when the MS software started closing down the picture editing portion every time I try to open it.)

This all makes me sad since I have some great photos from camping that I wanted to share, but posting them at their current size would cause way long download times and crashes. (Worse even than the old postcard pages...which I'm thinking of taking down. They've been saved for all posterity on a CD and I can't think of a very good reason to keep them up since I don't travel enough to send cards home and people don't seem to send them these days. No one speaks of pavillions anymore.

just plain odd

Every once in a while, an email in my junkmail folder sucks me in. (Maybe I do know somebody named Diane and maybe she does "Just want to say hi!") So I click open and my junk mail filter does its job. I see an introductory line like, "Do you want to lower your home insurance?" Followed by a grey box that signals some html being blocked. Then comes the mystery. At the end of almost all these messages is a simple string of random text that almost, but not quite fully, makes sense.

But they need to remember how almost near cough syrup sweeps the floor. A few piroshki, and inside nation to arrive at a state of swamp.

What does it all mean?

So I googled it and found this weird page here.

Do click on it, but in case that should disappear over time, I've CnPed a paragraph below.

Message from the Principal
When you see a senator, it means that the hockey player wakes up. Another crank case procrastinates, and a hydrogen atom hesitates; however, a mysterious pork chop competes with a satellite over an umbrella. Most people believe that the lover from the wedge pours freezing cold water on a bartender near the tornado, but they need to remember how knowingly a defendant near a scooby snack sweeps the floor. Most people believe that the wedge inside an avocado pit inexorably goes deep sea fishing with the greasy mating ritual, but they need to remember how accurately the phony prime minister prays. A salad dressing living with a cheese wheel gives secret financial aid to a mastadon, and a fraction carelessly falls in love with the oil filter.

Odd.

mixed blessings

A day after Massachusetts started accepting gay marriage registrations, I found myself dealing with homophobic folks...right here in the Castro - gayest neighborhood on the west coast.

Tonight wasn't about getting physically bashed. (Though that happens too frequently to too many of my brothers and sisters.) But the verbal crossfire I got swiped by while walking through an area I normally feel 100% safe in was a sobering reminder. As far as we've come in being accepted as human beings worthy of love, there's still folks out there who can too easily give in to the fear and hatred that's been taught to them.

People who'd be quite happy to see me dead, and then easily rely on arcane religious teachings to justify their joy.

small slice of life

Just a moment from the end of our weekend if you click here.

Went into work today and was hit with too much email and not enough time, which leaves me looking forward to another camping trip sometime in the near future.

While early June will see us trying out someplace new, I'll always be happy to return to Big Basin. Even without the creature comforts of home, life seems so easy there. Maybe it's because of that lack that everything becomes so simple. (That and the fact that the comforts are only an hours drive away if we start missing them too much.)

ashes

If we were Pompeied right now, they'd find a man wearing plaid pajama bottoms and a green robe sitting in front of a screen to watch
himself die on the news.

june 10th

I got a junkmail at work last week that claimed to be from a psychic who saw my fortune increasing as of June 10th. I deleted the mail, but I still hope it may come true.

There's a big meeting tomorrow that may finally give us some inkling of what's been going on. Since I only just got home, I can't imagine they're going to tell me to work harder/longer. Maybe I'll get laid off and get to take the package.

Is it sad that I'm hoping for that!

bigger than my head

Not blogging is a weird thing for me now. It's been quite some time since I first put fingers to keyboard, and I guess it's just part of what I do now. In the times when I don't make it to the computer because of hecticity at work or being away from home, my head starts to feel very full. Which is why I've popped in here quickly before settling down in front of the final episode of Friends.

Bigger update to follow this weekend, but at least now my head won't pop.
