snapshot
Posts will be thin on the ground this week as we want to spend our time hanging with Dude and Dudette.
A little glimpse into the past few days.

get ready
Half day of work left and I'm on vacation! G and I have Friday afternoon and Saturday to prep for the visit from Dude and Dudette, but G's done most of it already so it should be a nice segue into my vaca.
My nights have been full of odd dreams centering around the workplace. I wish they'd just announce the sale and let us get on with it.

hole in the bucket
So tired of being in debt. Trying to be good, but sometimes it seems quite pointless.
In happier news, D and D-ette are heading out this way in just one week. Very much looking forward to their visit. A bright light in a dark woods.
Sorry. Too many bills in the mail tonight which made me realize I was a dumbass with fundage planning for the month of October. That and the fact that the company owes me an expense check that ought to have arrived already and is giving me angst. I'll stop being pitiful now.
NIN's Head Like a Hole is skipping in my head.

broccoli dude
If you type brocolli dude went to Target into your Google search engine my site pops up as the first hit. Please note my misspelling of "broccoli" helps this to be true. Late night or not when I typed it, I must apologize. To atone for this sin, I have made sure that the heading for today's blog has the proper spelling for broccoli. I hope to never again forget that it's a double c and a single l.
Yes, it's Saturday night and I have a bit too much time on my hands, but G's just woken up from his little disco nap and we can go boogie. (This in no way implies that we're actually going out dancing, but "wonder walk nap" didn't quite convey why he was having a bit of a lie down.) Until tomorrow, may the broccoli be with you.

whistling in the dark
Just rediscovered the TMBG site. Had popped in a year or two ago and never thought to go back, though I continued to listen to the old CD's. Well, tonight I had Birdhouse in My Soul stuck in my head, so I figured I'd try my luck at finding it. Actually found the video on their site by continuously shooting at the little movie camera that floated by. Went on to find audio for a batch of other old faves. Still haven't been able to get Particle Man to pop up, but I did hit on Ana Ng and had a fun little karaoke session in front of my computer. G was mighty amused.

dig it
Just bumped into an interesting article here about a modern cinema found in the catacombs underneath Paris. It reminded me that I really want to read the Davinci Code.Labels: linkage, reading

weekend reading
I'm suddenly reading again. Almost like the old days...well the middle ages at least.
Life of Pi was wonderful and something I'd recommend to most anyone.
Saving Valencia was quite funny and something I'd recommend to most gay men, and those folks who've always thought the universe a bit queer.
Ella Enchanted, the book, was nothing like the movie. (though both were, in their own way, amusing tales) I recommend the movie to anyone who found Shrek funny. G and I laughed out loud several times. I recommend the book to anyone who loves fairy tales retold, but mostly to teenage girls. (or teenage guys who aren't afraid of reading chick lit.)
Guns, Germs and Steel has a few more pages read, but is still unfinished. That being said, it remains fascinating to me, albeit a bit heavier than I was looking for this weekend.
I've inspired myself with the reading, but in a maudlin way, so I published the poem in the past to take the edge off. Labels: dose of mikey, linkage, random review, reading

my turn turn turn
I'm putting myself away for safe keeping.
Wrapping myself up in tissue paper to keep the dust off
and Sealing it together with duct tape.
I fear that something bad's about to happen
so I'm running from it, running from the universe.
The event will come to me anyway.
Rip off the delicate paper
and Expose me to harsh reality.
Somewhere in my mind I know this,
yet Ignore the knowledge that's been given to me.
Feeling safe in cozy darkness.

limes
The taste of limes reminds me of Christmas....but which Christmas?
Had dinner with Lena and her new beau this evening. A very nice time, but the food didn't quite agree with me. Ended up home on the couch medicating myself and trying hard to ignore my swirling stomach. Now it's late late late and I'm up again feeling oddly invigorated.
Limes. Limes have been, in my life, mostly a compliment to gin. Gin and tonic at Christmas.
They returned from Burning Man only days before and were full of stories to tell. G and I listened intently, and I was filled with a desire to go next year. Ideas for a theme run through my head, many based upon Ancient Grecian tales.
Sitting, sipping, smoking cigarettes.
Whatever we do, we'll need an RV. Even in the midst of thousands foresaking the normal, certain creature comforts will not seem untoward. Indeed I believe we shall find them a nice compliment to the larger trip.
Just being united with family and wallowing in the love.
This prose poem has been brought to you by the number 3 and the letters a m.

monkey memories
Don't much want to think about today because that would just lead to thinking about tomorrow...which is more work and big headaches this week. Much ado about something of little import.
That reminds me, it's actually not that hard to pick up a monkey from the airport. It's just a matter of making sure your papers are in order and that you've lined the back of your station wagon with plastic.
It's NOT a good idea to try and befriend monkey while still at the airport. Especially if you decide that letting the monkey out of his cage will show him that you're a "good" human. He'll just throw his poop at you and run for the nearest loading dock. Later, after several well placed tips to the right folks, the incident will be overlooked and you'll be free to take your monkey home, but you'll have wasted valuable time and money in the process....and probably just confused your poor monkey.

13 going on 34
G and I finally figured out how to get the DVD player working at the dogsitting house and ended up watching 13 going on 30. It's got the same premise as Big, but with the kidult being a girl vs. a boy and with a nifty time traveling twist that allows for a retro 80's soundtrack.
A good time was had by all. Sure, we're both suckers for romantic comedies, but how could anyone hate a DVD that has the full video for Pat Benatar's Love is a Battlefield as an extra?
