cliche, but true
True change is seen through snapshots of our lives taken over a period of weeks, months or even years, but it is a challenge we must face on a daily basis.Labels: dose of mikey, spirit

briefly
I love the fact that Castro Street Station is all decked out for Halloween. Brought a smile to my face after leaving work way too late this night.Labels: dose of mikey, san francisco

home
Went home for a week, but now I'm back home.
Odd how I can feel so attached to two places 3000 miles apart. Going home to Boston always leaves me feeling conflicted. I feel enveloped in safety, but in an almost claustrophobic way. It's great to see everyone and dream of living back there again, but the weight of responsibility I'd give myself in doing so is often frightening to think about. I have a hard enough time making time for everything here in SF, without adding the family and old friends back into that mix on a more regular basis.
If I left, I would miss SF terribly: hills full of hidden places, the found family, the laid back way of thinking, the willingness to try something new. I'd be leaving home again to go back home.
But Boston, or the suburbs to which I'd return, beckons mightily these days. I know the yoke I worry about is one I'd choose to place on my shoulders, and maybe I just need to change my mind about that choice.

gay wheels
Oh dear. Seems my beloved Honda Civic Hybrid isn't as gay as it could be according to Gay Wheels.
If they don't change the policy before the lease is up, G may get his wish for a Subaru or Audi as the next edition to our family.Labels: dose of mikey, linkage

half baked
Tired. Been one of those work weeks where I end up in and out of the office on the 8s. Positive feedback from interview last week keeps me sane in the same way that an unchecked lotto ticket can. Pretty sure that it's not going to amount to anything in the long run, but it makes a nice springboard from which to jump into a pool of daydreams.
Yes, I'm tired and living in a world of half baked metaphors.Labels: dose of mikey, sharketing

flying high
Let me start with a brief review of Serenity. Kick ass! I don't often use that term so it may sound odd coming from me, but this movie rocked. Best SciFi that I've seen in a long time.
In other news, Fleet Week in SF means hearing quite a few jet engines over the past few days. While some folks complain about the noise and comment on the waste of fuel, I have to own loving it all. I spent many a summer swimming in Peter's Pond and playing in the sand. The sound of jets flying low overhead as they prepared to land at nearby Otis Airforce Base became as normalized to me as the sounds of crickets in the woods at night. Those summers are far away, but the sound of a low flying jet jerks me back into a past that was so much simpler. Besides, pilots are HOT. Labels: dose of mikey, linkage, memory lane, random review

if i were a camera
Photos I would've taken today if I'd had the camera with me:
Shiny red phone dangling from a Castro Street sign.
Twenty-something couple kissing on the wall while she held a yellow care bear tightly under her arm.
Reflection of myself in the window of Cliff's variety staring up at the manlyquin dressed in a french maid's uniform.
Glimpse of the ferry building through the trees in that park with the Georgia O'Keefe statue and the 4 Seasons fountain off of Jackson.
Muni turnstyle with a round sticker on one metal arm that read, "HELP ME PLEASE!"
Yes, I could start carrying the camera around with me, but I've developed a fear of losing it since the Niagara Incident. A camera-phone seems somehow safer.Labels: dose of mikey

interview with a mikey
Had an interview with an east bay company today. It went really well, and I'll found out more later, but it seems a fun and different opportunity. I won't say much more since I hold to my original rule about keeping work very peripheral to this blog, but it's amazing how the thought of commuting frightens me.
I already feel sometimes like my 30 minute commute is a pain, but I get to be blissfully thought free or, if my brain is present and accounted for, read for a bit. What would I do if the commute suddenly turned into a 45-50 minute drive where I had to concentrate and curse out other drivers? (the other option is a 60-70 minute Muni to Bart to Bus ride which presents problems of its own)
And this company starts up about an hour earlier than I do now. The horror!
Still, I'm more intriqued than I thought I would be.Labels: dose of mikey, sharketing

auntie mame is hung
I had a friend back in Boston who would throw that quote at me quite regularly. For some reason, she popped into my mind this morning, and I wondered how she was doing. (Okay, the reason is probably strongly linked to the fact that I had about 20 martinis last night and a generally all around good time.)
We fell out of touch after I moved to SF, but the memories still bring a smile to my face. Sure, today the smile came after a couple of aspirin and a strong cup of coffee, but it did eventually make an appearance and I'd like to give a shout out to Grace to say thanks.Labels: memory lane, shout out
