news flash

Well, I've made it to the "meet my potential boss" stage in one of my lines of interviewing. Gotta admit, while it's been nice to have free form sort of days, I wouldn't object to a steady paycheck again. Also pretty cool that if I do get this particular job, it'll be because they popped up in a random search for environmentally responsible companies that I was doing on a completely non-job related project. Before then, I hadn't even realized that they were headquartered here in MA. Add to that that I have a bit more affinity for the product mix being sold than in my prior position and you get good times all around. (To be fair, I do wear pants, but how many folks have a true passion for them? Errr... if you don't know which company I used to work for, that's going to sound a bit odd.)

All that said, I'm not going to count my dragons before they hatch.

d-day for mr. gobble

Just realized that it's been over a week since I've posted anything. I'm sure you're all just giddy with anticipation, but there's just not much to tell.

Been spending a lot of time with the family and a little time job searching. Several prospects right now, but since I keep this blog vauge when typing about the work side of my life, I won't mention where.

Heading over to the Thanksgiving dinner shortly. Mr. Gobble will not have died in vain.

sore

Spent a few hours today playing a complicated game of move the boxes in our storage unit in order to get at some paperwork stored in one little box at the very back of the unit.

THe fact that this particular box was placed on the floor beneath several larger boxes and a piece of furniture or two made the game extra challenging. Any false move could have created an avalance with yours truly wedged underneath.

Point is that I finally got the contents of the box out (as the box was wedged in just so) and took them home. Now, rifling through them was fun as they were mostly diary entries and half written stories from the 90s. That said, the pages I was looking for were not in the batch and I'm afeared I'll be heading back on the hunt again tomorrow.

Going to go take an extra stregth something or the other in order to dull the slowly growing ache in my back. AHHH. Thank you modern medicine.

cross country math

I had a minor freak out today after visiting the storage unit. In order to bring my brain back under control I did various math problems.

I figured out that we used 122 gallons of gas to drive a total of 4300 miles across the country. We averaged about 35.3 miles to the gallon. (Considering our car was weighted down with all the extra stuff we forgot to cram into the moving truck, not too shabby.)

We spent a total of 358 dollars on gas at an average price of $2.94 per gallon.

Did you need to know that? Perhaps not, but it helped make my brain feel a bit better about the possibility of a missing box.

Here's a semi-accurate map of the journey. Mapquest only allows 10 destinations, so our stops in Hardin, Montana; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Freemont, Indiana are missing. It also neatly chops of about 500 miles in various sections where we took the road less travelled, but at this size it doesn't make that much of a difference. (Clicking on the map should make it slightly larger.)

happy days for me

Found a link to this article in my email this morning.

This could be an omen of good things to come...or a sign that my recent ruminations on taking up golf should be heeded instead of dismissed as some twisted bourgeois fantasy.

of satin dresses and shoulder pain

We've been having a nice time catching up with the various folks who've gotten in touch with us, and generally getting used to the fact that we're in limbo right now.

Took Mom in to town yesterday to see Dudette try on wedding dresses. It was six females and then G and myself. To be honest, I thought it was going to be a bit boring for the two of us, but we wanted Mom to be able to be there. Turns out we ended up having a pretty good time. Call it Queer Eye for the Straight Bride. I guess I've absorbed enough fashion info over the past years to have switched that once dormant part of my gay gene on...or at least fake it pretty well.

In other news, I managed to sleep on my shoulder wrong two nights ago and it's still messed up. The general unsettled feeling probably isn't helping me to relax much. It actually hurts a bit to type, so I'm stopping now.
